HISTORY OF CLUB 63 NORTH

Incorporated as a non-Profit Society with Alberta Consumer & Corporate Affairs, under the name of the Fort McMurray Syncrude Social Society and Edmonton Syncrude Social Society.
Although there are no records dating back to 1976, it is my understanding that a decision was made to incorporate as a non-profit society as Syncrude does not have assets, and the society was building up assets.
At that time the society purchased items such as hockey equipment. The teams were provided with full equipment, except for skates. The equipment was loaned out each year and returned for the next. This practice was later discontinued due to loss of equipment and safety concerns.
The membership dues of $1/month were Payroll deducted with Syncrude matching the membership dues and issuing a monthly cheque to the society.Fort McMurray and Edmonton amalgamated under the name of Syncrude Social Society.
Due to the fact that it was becoming progressively more difficult for Research volunteers to manage the administrative duties of the club, a request was made to the Fort McMurray society to become a Chapter of the Club with administrative duties provided by the staff in Fort McMurray.
The Chapter designations were:
- Administration
- Extraction
- Central Maintenance Services
- Mining
- Research
- Technology
- Upgrading
- Utilities

Name changed to Syncrude Social Society
